Schwarz House
As the clients wanted to see the water not only from the living and dining area but also from their bed the need for a second storey arose.
They were surprised by my suggestion to omit the ceiling above the dining area in order to make the house appear more spacious only to surprise me in turn by proposing a balustrade in lieu of a wall thus opening up even more space. To their surprise I advised manila rope for the balustrade instead of glass or steel.
The external shape was derived by interpretation of quite arbitrary zoning rules, the client’s wish to overlook the fields towards Southeast and my wish to place windows below the ridge in order to provide efficient ventilation in summer.
